Unless you *are* an artist or designer, in which case, your anxiety and your insecurities will fucking skyrocket.

Or you can follow people who are doing something that you aspire to do.

Or leave social media like Facebook and Twitter. You'll feel a lot better after you do.

I’m an artist/designer and all I follow is friends and other artists, designers or curator accounts. Someone told me that nothing will change the feeling of inferiority until you truely internalise that we are all in different stages of our journey, and that each artwork has a unique story or passion behind it and usually also a lot of unseen hours/days/weeks of work. There are no shortcuts, what you see is really just a glimpse of the journey, at the end. I’ll freely admit I am only just getting comfortable with this concept myself.

Unfollow people more attractive than me to see people more talented than me. Both groups are things I cannot achieve. I’ll stick with depression memes.

Better advice: Stop giving a shit what others are doing and focus on yourself and what you want to be doing

    this_itches

Yeah I don't know. This reeks of "I'm not like the other girls." We should follow what we want and what gives us joy instead of trying to hipster preach at each other. Definitely not motivating for me.

Unsubscribing from this subreddit is also a good idea.

Jokes on you, I wake up insecure without Instagram

Lol, there is a huge overlap between these two “categories”. They are all influencers if they have a significant enough following. The models are just a type of influencer like the artists and designers.

If you're insecure over random people being better looking than you, wouldn't you just be insecure over random people being more talented than you too?

What the fuck is an “influencer”? I’m not in the social media game.

Only follow people that have the potential to provide you with something useful. "Something useful" is a huge window ranging from wisdom to fap material

    -raspberry

Don't follow artists if you're one too. Don't follow people from your field in general, you'll feel bad if they're doing better than you.

That’s bs advice. I follow Instagram models and they are in really really good shape so when I’m feeling lazy and thinking about skipping a workout, seeing them gives me the motivation to get up and get it done. As a straight dude, seeing a woman who is in incredible shape gives me that extra push to try to get more fit.

    Guy sounds like an influencer

Get rid of social media, it’s an even better step. Instagram is just people that want attention. Same with this site, same with every outlet of social media

Being a bodybuilder myself, I find following fellow bodybuilder models both male and female inspiring on IG. Lol being an ex-artist, following artist on ig makes me feel like a failed artist. Im not really sure about this one

I’d follow photographers for your hobby if there are any. Since I’m into cars I follow Larry Chen. His photos are a hell of a lot more aesthetically pleasing than fake tits.

As a depressed script writer, this is possibly the worst thing I could do to myself. It would make me feel less confident than I already am about my work, because I always end up seeing things in other works that I thought I had come up with as original. There’s nothing more devastating than having to completely rewrite your life’s work to remove the one aspect you thought made it unique and innovative.

YES, i have my regular insta with friend, family, famous people then this year I made a personal one where i post a pic daily and ended up following hobby oriented instagrams. BIG difference. I eventually stopped using my regular little by little subsonscialy. Just 2 days ago I logged back into my regular one and pretty much INSTANTLY felt miserable. Suddenly I became unhappy, like what I had been doing wasn't enough, pretty much "FOMO"

I’ve tailored my social media (twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, tumblr etc) so only things I want to keep learning pop up. So my Twitter is a lot of economists, law scholars, scientists etc. I taught myself art history and contemporary art through Instagram. I also follow a lot of nature photographers and have learned a lot about birds among other things. I use tumblr for fashion, design, and architecture. My outlook on social media is basically if I can’t avoid it then might as well make the most out of it and use it to grow
