Nice! I hope I'm not the only one that read this quote in his voice. I'll never forget the realness in his style of writing and delivery. Always remember to pour some out for your homie.

There is a guy in me that wants to kill himself. My whole life is a series of strategems to outwit that guy.

But sometimes the person inside who wants to lie around and smoke weed all day needs attention too.

What if you give into that guy? I find my self in seasons. There I am "that guy". Then I'm back full time jitsu and boxing. I fluctuate weight alot becuase of it. I need to just stay in the gym. I make way better life choices and have a much clearer mind...

He was neighbors with my mom when she was a child. She always knew him as “Tony the stoner next door”. My sister and I thought his travels were cool, but to my mom his career showed how far he came from when he was just a guy in Jersey. Gone too soon.

This may be the wrong thing to say here, but maybe he should have sought to balance in his life and had more time with “that guy’’ Smoking weed and playing video games may have given him some much needed down time.

I love watching old movies while smoking weed and in fact my plan in life is to make enough money that I can live the rest of my life like that. The time I waste working and shit is time I'm not watching masterpieces of film while high. Smoking weed makes me appreciate the visual aspect of films much more and it's always a fun experience and it makes me happy. You cannot believe the happiness I felt after watching elevator to the gallows for the first time. Same thing for watching the hit (1984), fallen angels, chungking express, call me by your name, purple noon, le samourai, the long goodbye, la piscine, the street player (one of my all time favorites and it's an Egyptian film from the 80s, if you can find it with subtitles let me know) and the American Friend. I don't think that's a bad goal if it makes me happy. Am I wrong?

On the one hand, this is totally motivating. On the other hand, I wonder how much of him trying to "outwit" that version of himself was actually what contributed to his downfall. Can't help but think that maybe if he'd smoked more weed and stayed in bed watching cartoons and movies more he'd have felt better. Then again, this could just be his way of describing himself when he is super depressed and that his whole life was built around running from depression/suicide.

Always going to be my favorite quote from him ”Im never going to slink home again, knowing I fucked up,' I'd tell Steven in one of our many post-game analysis sessions. 'Things go sour here? It won't be for lack of trying on my part. I ain't never gonna dog it. I'm never going home at the end of the shift feeling ashamed. I don't care if the crackpots we work for deserve it or not, I ... we are gonna give a hundred percent. We're gonna fight Dien Bien Phu over and over again every night. I don't care if we lose the war- we're professionals, man. We're the motherfuckin' A-Team, the pros from Dover, cool breeze . . and ain't nobody ever gonna say we dropped the ball, let the side down, let things slide . . .' -Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential. I read this for the first time about 17 years ago and it's always stuck with me. It invigorated my passion for what I do, when I was contemplating on moving away from the industry. Rest easy, Chef. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I still can’t believe he is gone. I understand depression and mental illness but it also seems so senseless to me. A man who had everything at his fingertips couldn’t get the help he needed in time.

I just finally had the guts to make a dish from Pok Pok, a Thai cookbook and Anthony wrote a review for it. “This book, as far as I’m concerned, is an argument ender. When Andy says ‘make som tam lao like this,’ it’s like Jacques Pépin telling you how to make an omelette. The matter is settled. Previously, I would never have even attempted to prepare most of these dishes in my home. I had always felt that Thai food was best left to the experts. But this book has given me hope and confidence.” —Anthony Bourdain I love you dude and I miss you.

No. This is a neat quote, and I love Anthony Bourdain, but I urge anyone who has these problems to not follow the advice of a man who never truly faced up to his addiction. He was a “reformed” crack addict who felt he could keep drinking after he left crack behind. He was a depressed alcoholic ( watch the Italy episode of his show), and his addiction ultimately killed him. This isn’t bad advice per se, but take it with a large grain of salt.

I have a feeling he committed suicide because his wife was cheating on him. Just a couple days or weeks before he commited suicide, some pictures were leaked on facebook of his wife holding hands with some italian or french photographer or something like that. Poor guy..

I remember someone posting a different ending before to this quote that was resonating. Something about him working hard so he could get the time off to be a lay in bed all day, cartoon watching pot smoker and still enjoy it. I liked that version.
