Is that a thing? Eating alone is considered being lonely? Why would that be weird? Why would you need a companion to eat at a restaurant?

I love food and hate cooking. My relationship of 3 years ended and eating out is one of the main things I missed. I have started going out by myself, mainly breakfast or lunch, dinner is a little more awkward. I love it though and it is half the price!

Sitting alone in my favorite diner at 4AM with a fat stack of eggs and bacon, and a cup of black coffee, is as close to heroin like bliss as I want to get.

I just don't understand the stigma. If my boyfriend isn't around when I have a day off, I love going to a diner by myself for an hour. Sometimes I will take a book but other times I'll just relax and hang out for a bit and enjoy the zen of some alone time.

What a relief when you no longer care about what strangers think and you can go to restaurants and movies alone.

I never understood the fear of eating alone. Sometimes it's just nice to get away from everything, go have a nice meal and a beer without the stress of anything or anyone. Maybe I'm odd.

Eating alone in a restaurant is awesome. You can read a book, watch stuff on you're phone, eat at your own pace. It's really nice.

It’s all a matter of mind. If one truly cares about what a person whose mindset is, “Yeah that person must be a loser for eating alone”. Then ide recommend trying to impress a demographic whose base IQ is above 30.

My therapist encouraged me to do this every so often, she calls it taking yourself on a date. You get all dressed up and just go somewhere public. Even if you're just on your phone the whole time, it's still a nice experience because you can just sit and get to know yourself for a little bit.

I eat out alone frequently, and I never feel weird. Also, I never feel like people are looking at me with pity, like, oh, that poor person is eating along -- oh the horror! I also watch movies by myself in the theater weekly and love it!

I used to be so terrified to eat alone and now I do it all the time. It’s definitely a new level of confidence. Eating alone in my apartment because I’m afraid to eat alone in public is loneliness lol

    daaangerz0ne

Sometimes it's the fear of change rather than perspective. I also used to see it as lonely and sad, now I'm perfectly happy sitting down for a nice meal with nobody to judge me for watching shows on my phone as I eat.

Eating alone at a public restaurant is like getting 50% off the meal price for being single.

Maybe I'm just supremely confident, but what's so hard about sitting alone at a table eating, reading stuff on your phone? Is this generation so anxiety-ridden it's a whole ordeal to just sit down and frickin eat? The psychiatrist bills alone for this generation are going to bankrupt any healthcare system I guess... MAN, everyone stop being so frickin neurotic worrying some other diner will be judging you

How is eating alone in a resturaunt either of those things? I do that quite often. It's not a level or loneliness or confidence. It's just part of life. No reason to try to label it. I guess I don't get Twitter

Eating alone in public is awesome, you don’t have to try and keep a conversation going while you scarf down your food. Plus, your food usually gets out quicker because only one order is being prepared!

There are 7 billion people on earth. Contrary to popular opinion, we are all not a hive mind organism. Stop caring about what other people think of you. Don't be a nuisance to society, but don't also be so scared of being alone that you suffer unnecessary angst.

I eat alone all of the time when I travel for work. Restaurant goes will usually give a weird look like I'm some guy who never took the time to meet anyone. Nope, just don't want to stuff pizza into my face while laying on a hotel bed again.

Eating alone is a public restaurant is eating alone in a public restaurant. I am doing that pretty often. I don’t think it’s something that should be complemented. It’s so not something to be pointed out.

It is quite presumptuous to think that someone is lonely just because they are alone. People have phones. While eating, someone could be texting and watching a sex tape they filmed last night with their lover. Never assume anything.

I usually sit at the bar and eat by myself so I’m not taking up a whole table. Plus, speed of service at my usual places is better at the bar, I don’t like to wait 10 minutes for a beer. But I’m usually high and hungry, not lonely.

I absolutely do not u sweat and why people feel this way (the first tweet). I’m 38. I am Single, live alone, no kids. I travel alone, eat at restaurants alone, movies, amusement parks, bars, etc. I’m a very outgoing extrovert, but I don’t always need or want someone to go with me. And I have people say stuff all the time about it. Heck, most of my married friends have kids and can’t afford to go to a nice restaurant often. I can because I own my home, have a good job, limited bills, and no one but me to pay for.

I've never once seen a person eating alone in a restaurant and thought "look at that lonely bastard." Maybe their job requires them to travel. Maybe their partner is in the hospital. Maybe they just want a fucking bowl of soup.
