The timing of this is impeccable. For too long I wanted to do everything myself since I broke up with my ex 4 years ago. Housing, college, daily struggles. We shared everything and it made me codependent. Weak. I haven't completed my degree and put it off. My younger sister by 3 years is about to finish her AA then transfer to an undergraduate school. The roommate she was going to live with fell through and I jumped on the opportunity to go to school with her. She said "we can be broke college students together" and not going to lie I teared up a bit. It's a plan in progress but I applied to the school and am excited for this future. It seems a lot brighter than the path I was on.

I wish this was a donkey and an elephant. Then it would be even more appropriate as it would be great to see our (USA) government parties working together instead of this constant fighting. Edit: a misspelling

Or you can just cut the damn rope and go alone. The old "African" proverb is outdated. I have a Colombian proverb for you. "Life is not but 100 years of solitude, the secret to a good old age is nothing but a humble pact with solitude". Nothing sticks forever, people come and go, you are born alone, you die alone; you are only truly traveling alone; everyone else is a passerby who you just happen to coincide with, you might be together for a while, make a kid, who will also turn away after a while and pick their own path, ultimately you will be alone and forgotten and your name will disappear in history. You might say this is depressing, but it is also reality; so if you don't learn to go alone, fast and far, you will have a bad time.

This reminds me of this exercise we did in school when I was like 16. We were split into groups of like 6-7 people and each group was given a different number of paper sheets. One group hade like two sheets, another hade like 10. The challenge was to get your whole group across a room (like 10-12 m) without touching the flopr, i.e by stepping on the paper. The groups with a lot of papers got across by simply putting down their sheets like islands and jumping one by one. The group with just two sheets had one guy sliding on them like skates while carrying everyone over. Took ages. It was then explained that this was supposed to symbolize global economy and resource distribution, how some countries have more than others. Then the real lesson came, when our teacher told us the best solution. She simply gathered all the sheets and put them in a straight line across the room. All we had to do was walk, one by one, together as one world.

This post is amazing and really resonates with me. For too long have I told and convinced myself that I am capable of doing everything alone, and must admit have achieved things yet never felt I went far. My girlfriend that I have been dating for almost 8 months now made me realize how severely independent I was to me and showing a bit of dependency, especially with my emotions, is not a bad thing. I feel like I'm going at a slower pace, but I know I can go far now.

A teacher in Jr high tried to teach us this lesson by pairing us up and making us arm wrestle. We had 5 minutes, and for every win we got a piece of candy. Everyone struggled to get a few pieces. Afterwords he was like Fools! and demonstrated if would have just taken turns winning, flopping our hands back and forth, we could have each earned hundreds of pieces of candy. It still haunts me to this day

Since the hay stacks seem equal on both sides, and it seems that each donkey would respectively eat half each time... The only thing accomplished is the additional work being done walking to and from the bales along with wasted time. I understand the concept, but it can be better conveyed elsewhere.

This will never happen. The left donkeys magical sky wizard told him that the right donkeys magical sky wizard was inferior like 800 years ago. So naturally today in 2020 they still believe in fairy tales and kill each other for it. Most likely scenarios is one donkey kills the other and takes both. Except neither side realizes by the time they finish fighting and killing each other the food will be spoiled.
