Take it from me a natural born worrier. I’m now 64 and just in the past five years have I begun to learn that worry never makes things better. I wasted a lot of life, caused my family unnecessary stress. If you can’t stop it, get some therapy...I did and it helps Worry only steals your happiness for today. I found out that most things work themselves out. Sometimes we have to change our expectations of what we want to happen. Mostly...let people be themselves... It’s hard enough to change yourself, you cannot change others. What you see is what you will get with them so if you are hoping they will change, save yourself time and sorrow and accept them as they are or decide not to have them in your life. Just my thoughts.😊

I definitely needed to hear this today. I just found out the other day that I lost six samples at work that needed to be tested for USDA requirements (I work in a lab) and I'm terrified that I'm going to be fired when I go into work tomorrow. I've been stressing out about it for the past 3 days and having panic attacks

Well, my girlfriend just texted me "I have something I need to talk to you about later." Right before she started a shift at work. Her first break is in 3 hours. Not worrying isn't really an option. Edit= Welp, yeah, it was a breakup text 3 hours later. FML.

This one's a little tricky for some b/c stressing about something kinda goes hand in hand with making sure you give it your all. Whatever stress you don't experience will be added onto the regret of something failing due to not stressing about it enough.

Yeah, okay, I won't worry about the cancer anymore. Silly me. You can downvote me if you want, but man, I really hate these. I would love to shut the worry I feel for a year now off for a second, trust me on that one. But that's not how life works imo. I believe that if you can choose not to worry too much about something, the issue probably wasn't all too big to begin with (relatively speaking).

This isn't motivating ("inspirational" at best) and it's dumb. Stress makes you more aware and often can be used as an indicator that something is going to go wrong, so it's useful. Stressing actually increases the chance you'll experience the thing you're stressing about better than if it just crashes on you.

Meh... To me this is one of those quotes that just sounds nice on the surface but hardly applicable. The initial stress is what drives you to prepare for the future event so you won't be stressed at that point as you are more prepared. Some amount of stress is completely fine because it drives efficiency. If you can't regulate your stress and over stress yourself without taking any actions, then that's another issue.

So honest question here, I stress majorly about time, making deadlines especially. How do I stop? I can’t reason my way out of it, instead I keep thinking, there’s not enough time, or I get angry at others for wasting it. It’s getting bad.

Agreed! I used to be a worrier, worry about tests, dates, meetings anything always worried how it would end up till I understood that if you can't change the outcome it's not worth my worry unless it puts you in danger. Its given me a better outlook on life and allowed me enjoy a lot of situations that used to stress me out.

I used to tell my kids this with vegetables: eat them first, then they're only awful for 1 minutes, instead of the whole meal! So now I do the unpleasant stuff first. (and there's a converse to the original post: if you joyfully anticipate a good event, you get to enjoy it for SO many more hours!" That's why I don't like surprises--I feel really cheated out of all the fun of saying, "My son is coming home from the Army, my son is coming home from the Army...!" How many days of happiness would you get out of that?)

I don't know about all of you people. But worrying helps my a lot. It allows me to think of things that could go wrong, and what to do when they do go wrong. It helps me plan ahead. It helps me stay calm when its actually happening, because I've, as this post puts it, **been through it once already.** No matter what it is you're doing, doing it calmly and efficiently is going to make the experience a lot more tolerable.
