I believe people are divided on how to personally take the meaning of this message. Some feel that it assumes that it’s about what have you now, even if it meant including the not happy stuff. I don’t think there ever came a time in your life that you’ve ever wanted those bad things, right? So this message is definitely not talking about that. No. I feel like this is to remind you of those other things, the nice things, that you might be enjoying now but has grown so accustomed to it that you’re practically ignoring how good it actually is. Those wonderful things that, before, you can only dream of doing or having. They are the comfortable goodies that you now treat normal which was a luxury to your past self. But now you’ve achieved a point of your life where that “woah what’s this?!” became a “oh that, yeah whatever”. So please, remember. Remember those happy things that was so awesome then, but has become invisible to you now. Don’t add a question mark at the end of this message, add a solid period.

Solid transcendentalism paraphrasing here. I think this is from Ralph Waldo Emerson? Also, seems like a lot of people posting about the current negativity in their life are having a hard time finding even a sliver of hope in **something** that they have be it physical, emotional, or relational. There’s always something. Always. It may be small, but I think there is always something to latch on to and be uplifted.

I didn't want my divorce..... But I get what you're going for OP. Long story short, I grew up poor. Super poor. I always thought that my friends who lived in three-bedroom houses, with cable TV and a fireplace and weekly/bi-weekly trips to Costco were rich. And now, I have all that and I did it on my own. I'm not rich by any means, but growing up I thought I'd never see Disneyland, and I've gone like 6-7 times in the last 5 years. As shitty as I could say things are now, I could also be much worse too. So yeah. It all depends on how you look at what you have and being grateful. So thank you OP. I get what you're trying to say. Absolutely.

It's quite strange because I am incapable of enjoying the things I've got that I wanted to get. Am I unhappy about it ? Not quite, I figured out I'm not that materialist. These things fulfill me with basic needs and more would be over doing it. I've grown having an important marginal use : if I get two guitars, two cars or two keyboards, I would ONLY use the best one.

I always wanted a house. Got one. Now I’m about to lose it all because my last employer screwed me over and left me in a position of career unemployment for 5 months because the job they had me doing was completely irrelevant (glorified sales position) to what I do (engineering specification) making it nigh impossible to get a new job in the same field. This poster had the opposite effect.

I actually had this realization recently. I recently graduated college, got a nice stable well paying job. And I found that I was happier as a broke student for some reason. Made me really rethink my values and how I see life. There's a reason there are happy poor people and depressed rich people. A lot of these emotions just come from how you value life
