Yet he was a skeptic on evolution, calling it the "central and radical lie in the whole web of falsehood that now governs our lives.".

I've seen my friends and myself change over the last 5-10-15-20 years at this point. Nothing is as it was. It's different from when we met. The jobs and people they were with/dating have completely changed. All priorities and agendas are different. Even 5-10 years ago a lot is different. People are in different places for their lives both up and down. One friend has been suffering from depression but looking at where we diverged wasn't that long ago. It could have just as easily been me in their place if a few things changed. But my discovery was that on a long enough timeline things can change and be easily changed IF you make efforts to change them. The difficulty is identifying that today doesn't have to be tomorrow and just because you are where you are doesn't mean that can't change.

I mean, most days are similar, but I can generally point out when the major changes happened. Most of my work days are similar, but if I look back 2 years, they were different. Why? Because we got bought out in the interim. Even in his books, there's always major events making a change... One day is not like the last in most of them.

Not really, it's kind of what you would expect to see. It would be stranger still if when looking back it all appeared the same!!

Isn't this from Calvin and Hobbes, i.e. by Bill Watterson?

This perfectly defines "pithy". The opposite feels just as deep: "Isn't it funny that day by day everything changes, but when you look back, everything is the same".
