Voltaire was probably a really fun guy to have known. His writing and life are so rich. I enjoy him as a human, a writer and one of the great thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment. I imagine that a night at the same pub with Voltaire and Ben Franklin would have been a hoot

This makes me think of Sacha Baron Cohen's new show. He is exposing how easily fooled all of these politicians are. Sacha is doing it for comedy, imagine what has been done for profit.

FYI a better translation of his actual quote is "any one who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices" this is close enough though.

Your talking about time lines of hundreds of years it’s not really comparable. Also this is the most peaceful time in human history since the advent of city states. Change is brought about by money and influence not war. I see your point but I think we’re all understanding these people that are truly radical on American soil. They believe 100% that they are on a mission to save the world and will do anything their higher ups say. That’s not something common in the western world and we might be understanding the danger.

I appreciate the sentiment, but adults are responsible for their individual beliefs and actions. We’re not “made” to believe nonsense or commit atrocities, we choose them because they serve our narrative.
